Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center

Project Location:
Derry Township, Dauphin County, PA

Project Description:
Traffic impact study, transportation planning

Engineering Activities:
Grove Miller Engineering, Inc. completed a traffic impact study for the Medical Center Master Plan. The Medical Center is located in Derry Township, Dauphin County. The Master Plan details the anticipated construction schedule for campus expansion through 2015. The campus expansion will consist of additional medical buildings, student housing, parking garage, cancer center, children's hospital, and research buildings, as well as other minor additions. The project will also include the construction of a new connector road through the campus parallel to US Route 322. Traffic engineering activities included collecting traffic data, documenting trip generation for the various construction projects within each expansion phase, distributing and diverting site generated trips, developing future design year traffic projections, analyzing future design year traffic demands, evaluating capacity of the surrounding roadway network, recommending roadway and traffic control improvements, presenting study report results and recommendations to municipal officials. Ten (10) intersections within the study area were analyzed in conjunction with the project.
